When
Wendy Foster first started in the business 15 years ago,
they were making “all cotton” futons and pine
frames, all by hand, in the warehouse that was attached
to the showroom on Burnside Road.
“The days of lumpy old futons are gone”,
says Foster. “This truly is the next generation of
futons, especially with the incorporation of high density foam, memory foam, and even
natural latex foam into the futons. Memory/latex foam and other specialty futons
are now people’s primary sleeping surface.”
Shane Funk joined Wendy in February 2005
and they are both very excited about the future of the futon.
With the changes in technology and quality in foam and cotton
manufacturing, the life and comfort of futons is greatly
extended. The ease of operation of the frames allows a couch to
convert into a bed and back with very little effort.
Changes in Bedding Technology
The latest advancement in technology integrates
memory foam and latex foam into the futons themselves. And if that’s
not enough memory foam they carry a new 8” solid memory
foam mattress along with their 10” Viscoform line.
Memory foam has been recommended and prescribed by doctors
and chiropractors all over the world.
High density foam and a patented cotton
blend allow Wolf Futons (circa 1878) to give a 12 year warranty
on all of its Aerolife products. Dream On Futon Co. covers
expand Dreamscape's existing line of covers into faux textures, microfibres, and machine washable
fabrics, and now offer over 200 fabrics to choose from!
Customer Service is Key
As a family run business,
Wendy's children, Kaleigh and Jamie, have both contributed
the success of the store. As a team, they are all committed to customer service above all else, and at the same time believe that educating the public on the “new futon” is key to understanding the new technology of the futon industry.
“Superior product
knowledge and loyalty to integrity and customer service
are the primary attributes of our team,” adds Shane.
"We stand behind our products and are
completely honest about what we sell. Comfort comes first!
We have some of the nicest and most practical furniture
I’ve seen.”
The “Dream Team” is enthusiastically involved in creating a “new awareness” of the futon industry. If you’re new to the futon concept, the North American version is an in-expensive primary or secondary/guest bed, most of which convert into a sofa by day and bed by night. Metal and wood frames range in price from $100-$800, with the lower end being BC pine and the higher end being fine finished hardwoods. The new line of solid oak frames are quite attractive and very much affordable. The new “Eklipse” sofa sleeper is also an affordable primary or secondary sleep surface and doubles as a stylish sofa or recliner.
Community Involvement
Wendy and Shane have formed “The Dream
Team” for their involvement in the “DropZone”,
a community fundraiser that will see them repelle down 13
stories of the CIBC building on Douglas and View.
